THEA 301 – 302: Advanced Stage Voice and Speech

This course is designed for third year theatre performance majors.  Throughout the year, student broaden their vocal range and strength by continuing to hone their instrument and explore new level of vocal application. The first semester focuses on Shakespeare performance, vocal use, and text analysis.  The second semester focuses on stage dialects.

THEA 491: Acting with Archetypes

This course is designed for senior and graduate level performance majors.  Using the work of Janet Rodgers and Frankie Armstrong as a model, the course explores archetypes as a model for character development, vocal release, and physical/vocal exploration with applications to audition, heightened text, and devised work.

THEA 113 – 114: Acting I

This introductory course is designed for first year performance majors.  It focuses on the fundamentals of Stanislavsky-based acting technique.  Likewise it promotes self awareness, responsibility, and professionalism.

THEA 201 – 202: Stage Voice and Speech

This course is designed for second year performance majors.  The purpose of this course is as an introduction to the fundamentals of voice and speech work.  Units include vocal health, breath release, tension release, posture and alignment, vocal habits/mannerisms, vocal production, etc.  A final unit focuses on professional speech and phonetics.

SPCH 120 – 321: Effective Speech/Speech for Business

The course is designed as a comprehensive seminar on public speaking, including technique, peripherals, content, and speech writing.  It focuses on speech performance and personal communication with the audience.  Some units of this course of tailored to suit the needs of ESL students.
